Security Levels and Security Sections

Whether or not a user can access a file in a data room is controlled by two components within the data room: Security Levels and Security Sections.

Security Levels are assigned to both files and users. Security Levels range from Level 1 to Level 9, with Level 1 as the lowest and 9 as the highest. These Levels are set when a file is uploaded and when a user is created. These levels can also subsequently be updated throughout the life of the files or users on the system.

File access can be further segmented using Security Sections. Security Sections allows file access to be departmentalized. Security Sections are also assigned at the file and user level.

For example, if you have files that need to be shared only with the Legal team then you would assign the security section "Legal" to the users of the legal team and to the files that members of the legal team should be able to access. Only the users with the assigned security section "Legal" would see the legal files in the data room as long as the files are at or below the user's Security Level, as well.

Files and users can be placed into multiple security sections. A user with a security section of "allsections" will have access to all files with a security section as long as the files are at or below the user's Security Level.
